PoE 2 Sunder Rotation Explained | U4GM Melee Guide - Glico - 23-07-2026 After a few failed boss pulls, the appeal of a two-handed sword in PoE 2 becomes pretty clear: you are not trying to win a race of tiny hits. You are waiting for the opening that turns one heavy swing into real progress. A small stash of Path of Exile 2 Currency can help finish the weapon and gem setup, but the build works because its rotation respects the boss's hidden Posture bar rather than chasing sheet DPS alone. For physical melee players, that distinction matters far more than another minor damage roll. Play Around the White Bar, Not Just the Health Bar Map bosses and Pinnacle encounters carry a white Posture bar beneath their health. Heavy physical hits drain it, and when it reaches zero, the target is staggered for roughly 4.5 seconds. During that window the boss cannot move and takes 50% increased critical strike damage from incoming hits. That is the moment this setup is built around. New players often keep attacking with whatever skill is already active, wasting the best damage window on low-impact filler. With a two-handed sword, the better habit is to recognize the stagger animation immediately and spend that short lockout on your hardest prepared attack. The Rotation That Makes Heavy Sword Hits Matter Start the fight with Whirling Slash to apply Sunder Armor and cut the target's physical damage reduction by 20%. It is not the glamorous part of the rotation, but skipping it makes every later hit weaker. From there, Heavy Strike is your builder. Linked to Impact Support, it repeatedly applies the kind of force that chews through Posture while still dealing meaningful boss damage. Stay close enough to avoid losing value from Close Combat Support, but don't get greedy around telegraphed attacks. A dead Warrior builds no stagger bar. When the boss finally breaks, swap your attention to a fully charged Sunder slam. The stagger bonus to critical damage makes this the payoff hit, and a strong crit can remove an alarming amount of health before the boss gets control back. Support Choices and the Trap of Chasing Fancy Damage Heavy Strike wants a direct physical package: Impact Support, Brutality Support, Melee Physical Damage Support, Ruthless Support, and Close Combat Support. Brutality is especially clean for a committed physical setup because it trades elemental damage access for a large physical multiplier. Ruthless adds another rhythm to learn: every third strike is a Ruthless Blow, improving both ordinary damage and Posture depletion. Don't build around that third hit at the cost of surviving, though. Boss movement, dodges, and forced repositioning can interrupt the count. Treat it as a powerful bonus, not a promise you can force on every opening. This approach feels slower than rapid-hit melee while leveling, especially when normal packs die before Posture becomes relevant. In bosses and endgame encounters, however, the plan becomes much more efficient: debuff, build balance, then cash in the stagger with Sunder. Upgrade the weapon's physical damage before chasing clever extras, keep your links functional, and save cheap Path of Exile 2 Orbs for improvements that support the core physical loop rather than random sidegrades. That is where a two-handed sword Warrior earns its place in PoE 2. |
