Most Expedition wipes I have watched did not begin with bad aim; they began when a squad brought two flexible weapons and realized too late that the target was armored. After several runs under the July conditions, Anvil saved more ammo than any other primary I tested. Before spending crafting parts on random ARC Raiders BluePrints, decide whether your usual deaths happen on open sightlines, in close rooms, or during boss damage checks.
Anvil is still the safest weapon to invest in
Anvil is not flashy, but it is the gun I take when I do not know what an Expedition will throw at us. It controls Wasp and Hornet packs without chewing through stacks of ammo, and it can keep pressure on Rocketeers from a distance where Bobcat users are just waiting for an opening. The durability improvements matter more than people think: fewer repairs means more of your haul stays useful after a long run.
My preferred setup is Extended Barrel III, High-Capacity Magazine, and Stability Grip. The barrel gives it enough reach for exposed targets, while the magazine prevents the worst possible moment: reloading when a Hornet rush is already on top of you. Run light or medium ammo upgrades and take mobility from the Aggression tree rather than trying to turn Anvil into a pure tank build.

2. Reload before entering ARC-heavy rooms, never after the first contact.
3. Epic Anvils are good enough; do not hoard them indefinitely.
Bettina wins the armored target race
Bettina is the better choice when the run is planned around a serious armored target. The recent damage, dispersion, and armor-damage improvements are noticeable against Matriarchs, ARC Turbines, and anything with a weak point your team can hold. It has worse forgiveness than Anvil, though. Missed bursts hurt because heavy ammo is expensive, and panic-firing turns a profitable raid into a resource drain.
Run it with Flanking Augment Mk3 and let one teammate call weak-point windows. In a duo or trio, Bettina plus Hullcracker is much stronger than two Bettinas competing for the same heavy ammo pool. Hullcracker handles suppression and large damage windows; Bettina cleans up the exposed armor sections. Wolfpack Grenades also shorten Bastion fights enough to justify carrying them.
What players waste resources on

Renegade is still great for players who rotate constantly, Bobcat remains brutal in close quarters, and Hullcracker is a specialist rather than an everyday carry. Kettle can work early, but it falls behind once armored encounters become regular.
Farm Trials Season 5 and high-value Expedition areas with a shopping list, not a vague hope of getting rich. Grab parts for one dependable Anvil first, then build Bettina only when you are regularly seeing armored bosses. If your blueprint stash is thin, buying cheap ARC Raiders BluePrints for a specific build can be less wasteful than repeatedly crafting weapons you will never field.
